SOTW: Flying on the Ground by Tellef Raabe

Brits love some Scandinavian pop and Mr Raabe has brought us something punchy in his newest song Flying on the Ground.

Heralding from wet Bergen, his song is anything but damp. On its first play, the track almost surprises you with its assorted collection of sounds. The husky tone of his voice whisks you away to a quirky fairytale land of colourful lo-fi melodies that string throughout.

Its catchiness comes in the form of chirping chords which eventually crescendo into a bliss of what can only be considered as a dreamy flight. Epitomising the diversity in sound is his sister’s (Sigrid Raabe) harmonies. Herself a successful artist, she has seamlessly introduced her own distinct sound into her brothers track.

A song to send you in to your own thoughts whilst you swirl around with your head pointing towards the sky in hope that today can feel like flying on the ground.

Every Wednesday, one of our young contributors picks a Song of the Week; a piece of music that has meant something to them in the past seven days. Get in touch if you have a track to tell us about.
